Walter Suarez enlisted in the Marine Corps 1992 and served as an Assault
Amphibian Crewman with 3d AABn. During
this time, he was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education
Program (MECEP). Once he completed The
Basic School in 2000, he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL for flight
training and was designated a Naval Flight Officer with follow on training as a
F/A-18D Weapons and Sensors Officer.
reported to MCAS Beaufort, SC for duty with VMFA (AW)-533. Upon
check in, Major Suarez was assigned as the squadron S-1 Officer. While serving
with the Hawks, Major Suarez held additional billets as the Avionics Officer,
Scheduling Officer and Airframes Division Officer. He deployed twice with the squadron, first to
Iwakuni, Japan in 2003, then to Al Asad, Iraq in 2006 in support of Operation IRAQI
In 2008 Major Suarez reported to II MEF Camp Lejeune, NC and
deployed with 2D MEB Command Element to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in
support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the Deputy Information Operations
Officer from 2009 to 2010. Major Suarez
returned to MCAS Beaufort, SC and served as the NATOPs Officer and as the
MAG-31 Director of Safety and Standardization.
In 2012, Major Suarez reported for duty at the Marine Corps Information
Operations Center (MCIOC) and deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan as the
RC-SW Information Operations Officer. Upon returning, he served as the Information Operations
Force Development Company Commander for the MCIOC.
Major Suarez holds a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from
Texas A&M University and Master of Military Studies (MMS) degree from the
Marine Corps University. He is a
graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School in 2008 and the Marine Corps Command
and Staff College in 2012.
